What to Bring to Your Imaging Appointment
Heading to your first imaging exam? Use this checklist to make sure you have everything you need for a smooth visit.
Whether it is your first scan or your tenth, arriving prepared makes the whole process smoother. Here is your complete checklist for a visit to Advanced Medical Imaging in Seminole, FL — or any imaging center.
Essential Documents
Bring these to every imaging appointment:
- Photo ID — Driver license or state ID
- Insurance card — Front and back (we will make a copy)
- Doctor referral or prescription — The order for your imaging exam
- Prior authorization number — If your insurance required pre-approval
- Copay or payment — Check with your insurer or the facility for your estimated cost
Medical Records
These help your radiologist provide the most accurate interpretation:
- List of current medications — Including supplements and over-the-counter drugs
- Relevant lab results — Especially kidney function (creatinine/GFR) if you are having a contrast scan
- Prior imaging CDs or reports — If done at another facility (comparison images help the radiologist identify changes)
- Surgical history — Especially if you have metal implants, joint replacements, or pacemakers (important for MRI safety)
Personal Items
- Comfortable, loose clothing — You may or may not need to change into a gown depending on the exam
- A book or phone — In case of a short wait
- Snack and water — Especially if you have been fasting before the exam
- A ride — If you are receiving sedation, you will need someone to drive you home
What to Leave at Home
For certain exams, you should leave these behind:
For MRI Exams - All metal jewelry, watches, and piercings - Hair clips, bobby pins, and barrettes - Credit cards and key fobs (the magnet can erase them) - Hearing aids - Removable dental work
For Mammograms - Skip deodorant, antiperspirant, powder, and lotion near your underarms and breasts (these can appear as spots on the images)
For All Exams - Valuables you would not want to leave in a locker
Special Situations
If You Have Claustrophobia Tell us when you schedule. AMI offers Open MRI options, and your doctor may prescribe a mild sedative. If you take a sedative, bring a driver.
If You Need Contrast Make sure you have followed any fasting instructions and bring your lab results if kidney function testing was ordered.
If You Are Pregnant or May Be Pregnant Tell your technologist before the exam. Some imaging exams (CT, X-ray) use radiation and require special precautions. Ultrasound and non-contrast MRI are generally safe during pregnancy.
If You Have a Child If your child is having an imaging exam, bring a favorite toy or comfort item. A parent can usually stay in the room during the scan.
Arrival Tips
- Arrive 15 minutes early — This gives time for check-in, paperwork, and any last-minute questions
- Wear two-piece clothing — Easier to access the body part being scanned
- Turn off your cell phone — Or set it to silent during the exam
- Ask questions — Our technologists are happy to explain every step
What Happens at Check-In
When you arrive at AMI:
- You check in at the front desk with your ID and insurance card
- You complete or verify your patient forms
- A technologist reviews your medical history and explains the exam
- You change into a gown if needed
- The exam is performed
